Bears land TE, CB in latest 2020 NFL mock draft

What happens when a team signs a 33-year-old tight end with nothing left in the tank to a two-year, $16 million deal? They're forced to address the position in the upcoming NFL Draft.

That's the reality facing the Chicago Bears this year after adding Jimmy Graham in free agency. The former Packer looked closer to retirement than a lucrative free-agent contract last season and is a far cry from the answer the Bears need at tight end.

As a result, in the Draft Wire's latest 2020 NFL Mock Draft, the Bears snag Notre Dame's Cole Kmet at No. 43 overall.

Kmet makes even more sense now than he did a week ago. He's a younger version of Graham with his combination of size and above-average athletic ability. Rookie tight ends often struggle to make an immediate impact in Year 1, and with Trey Burton and Graham already on the roster, a player like Kmet can be brought along slowly and in time for the 2021 season.

At No. 50, the Bears add much-needed cornerback help in Clemson's AJ Terrell.

Ryan Pace hasn't addressed the secondary yet in free agency, and with Ha Ha Clinton-Dix's departure to the Cowboys, the Bears have holes at starting cornerback and safety.

Terrell projects as a plug-and-play candidate in Year 1 and would join a training camp battle between Kevin Toliver and Tre Roberson for a crack at first-team reps.

The Bears' trade for Jaguars quarterback Nick Foles cost them their fourth-round pick. They're left with the following selections in 2020: 163 (5th round), 196 (6th round), 200 (6th round), 226 (7th round), 230 (7th round).

Despite their desperate need for reinforcements, it was still somewhat of a surprise to see the Bears jump so quickly on signing veteran tight end Jimmy Graham. Graham, 33, was one of the game's best tight ends during the prime of his career, but has since seen a decline in production after leaving the Seahawks in 2018.

On top of that, the two-year, $16 million contract given to Graham is, so far, the second-largest contract given to a tight end this offseason. Only Austin Hooper, who drew plenty of attention from the Bears also, got a larger deal (4/$42 million). It's a curious investment from Ryan Pace, given how slowly the tight end market has moved so far. Just today, free agent Eric Ebron got this deal – the market's third largest – from Pittsburgh:

While Ebron is also coming off one of his worst seasons, the ex-Colts tight end is four years younger than Graham and only two years removed from a Pro Bowl appearance. Predictably, the Ebron news didn't sit too well with Bears Twitter:

It's official! Tom Brady is now a Tampa Bay Buccaneer.

On Friday, Brady shared via Instagram a picture of himself signing the paperwork from the Bucs' organization, and becoming their newest quarterback.

According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Brady signed a guaranteed two-year, $50 million contract with the Bucs. It will definitely be strange to see Brady suit up this fall in red, bay orange and pewter after he wore his iconic No. 12, red, white and blue Patriots jersey for 20 years with New England.

Most NFL fans were shocked when the 42-year-old announced Tuesday that he would no longer be a part of the Patriots' organization. He thanked Pats fans and the team in the process for his beloved career where he won six Super Bowls.
